BLAGDON PUBS

The Seymour Arms http://www.theseymourarms.com/ – closest pub to the cottage, about a mile, straight down the lane. Modern styling. Nice for drinks.

The New Inn at Blagdon http://www.newinnblagdon.co.uk/index – about 30 minute walk, all downhill, the last distance is across fields with lake views. Pub garden has views of Blagdon Lake, generally good food at a sensible price, a classic country pub.

OTHER PUBS & RESTAURANTS FURTHER AFIELD

Plume of Feathers at Rickford http://www.theplumeoffeathers.com/  walkable if you’re fit (the climb back up up the hill is quite hard work but views on the way down are worth it!) – typical local pub, good food including big menu selection and hand-stretched stone baked pizzas (owners dad has an authentic Italian pizzeria in Bristol), stunning stream and outside space. Super local ales, lots of locals check in here to catch up on a Friday night for a pint, a favourite with the local farmers and landowners.

The Swan at Rowberrow – https://www.butcombe.com/pubs/swan-inn/   – a 5 minute drive, lovely setting in the countryside, great spot for a circular walk before/after lunch, as footpaths on the doorstep, plenty of parking. Great location, very traditional food.

Hartleys Kitchen at Binegar near Wells – http://www.hartleyskitchen.online/ – incredibly good daytime café bistro, great value Sunday roasts, breakfasts & brunches – owner Paul is fabulous and his wife Lynda runs the kitchen.

The Good Earth at Wells http://www.thegoodearthwells.co.uk/ – vegetarian wholefood café that is second to none. Daytimes only, closed on Sundays, our top pick for a weekday lunch, get there early as popular dishes are often sold out by 1pm.

City of Wells. Definitely recommend a visit to the cathedral city, about 15-20 minutes away by car, fabulous cathedral, lovely shops. http://www.wellssomerset.com/ – the café in the Bishops Palace grounds serves lovely tea & cake and the WCs are the best public ones in Wells – go across the drawbridge, and the café is on the right.
